One of the days we stayed there — I can’t remember which — we decided to go to the Nadi city centre to look around. The city centre was several kilometres down Queens Road and was probably the size of a large country town, with a central commercial district and a number of houses nearby. It was dusk when we set out (this was May and it got dark after we finished our work for the day) so we didn’t have much to see. Certainly not a lot of photos (sorry about that).
One thing that did jog my memory were all the short-gauge railway lines. They were a lot of them, either crossing the road or running parallel to it. I think they were used, at one point, for carting sugar cane around. Honestly, I can’t tell you whether they were still in service; most of them looked disused. But I do remember them being a feature of my visit last time to Fiji and it was fun to see them again.
