RA-V Missions

Alofi, Niue

Fortunately (or unfortunately) we were on our way the next day. The flight was in the afternoon so we did a bit more sightseeing in the morning and spent about an hour in the visitor centre trying to pay for our lodging with a credit card (we did have cash but we were saving it for our final destination, plus it was in Australian Dollars and Niue uses the New Zealand Dollar as their currency). After one more lunch at the sushi place, we drove back to the airport, returned the car, boarded the flight (with our hand-written boarding passes) and flew back to Auckland.

The airport.

So I must say I really enjoyed Niue. Most definitely my favourite destination on our mission. I think, due to its size; the few number of people, both locals and tourists; the environment; and that it seemed so far from the beaten track, it felt truly like the edge of the world. You felt so remote, and yet, you also felt calm, as if there wasn’t a need to be anywhere. I’m guessing the holiday vibes from our rowdy Kiwi neighbours rubbed off on us.
